The result of being on the 7th floor in Amsterdam: A great view over the city (this may surprise you, but 7 floors is high in Amsterdam).

This nice bar with large terrace and awesome cocktails, restaurant and funky club offers a wide variety of drinks and activities and is located in the old office of one the larger Dutch newspapers. They are open for lunch (11am-4pm), for dinner (6pm-11pm) and in the weekends for different club nights. Make sure you check the agenda of Canvas Amsterdam on their website to see if your style is programmed for the weekend you are visiting Amsterdam. We are big fans of the jazz night every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month: Speakeasy Jazz night. Starts at 6pm! See you there?

The most popular park is definitely the Vondelpark. Since this park is also quite central a lot of tourists know how to find the park and especially on a nice day it’s really worth it to bring some wine and snacks and just chill in the Park. If you are more hungry, do what we did yesterday: At the back entrance of the Vondelpark, on the Amstelveenseweg 41, you’ll find a great pizzeria, run by real Napolitani: Pomorosso. Order pizza and eat it in the park!

Don’t forget: The most important thing is a blanket or towel. Since the soil can be moist, even after a few days of sunshine, make sure you bring one. Of course you can use your jacket, but the Dutch will recognize you as a tourist and you’ll have less space to move around. If you want a more like-a-local experience, go to the Westerpark, the Oosterpark or the Erasmus park.

They did and now, 50 years later, a brand new building has opened in September 2010, with 120 permanent hotel rooms and 170 extra hotel rooms in July, August & September, since then the students will (temporary) leave the building. Don’t worry: all the rooms are the same…

This hotel is located 100 meters from the Amstel river, near Amsterdam Amstel Train Station: a good location to connect with important tourist attractions by public transport. And it has pretty good rates:
