Have a cocktail @ Canvas op de 7e

“Canvas op de 7e” means “Canvas on the 7th” (which is probably not surprising you) and this means they are located on the 7th floor and (also not surprising…). The result of being on the 7th floor in Amsterdam: A great view over the city (this may surprise you, but 7 floors is high in Amsterdam).

This nice bar with large terrace and awesome cocktails, restaurant and funky club offers a wide variety of drinks and activities and is located in the old office of one the larger Dutch newspapers. They are open for lunch (11am-4pm), for dinner (6pm-11pm) and in the weekends for different club nights. Make sure you check the agenda of Canvas Amsterdam on their website to see if your style is programmed for the weekend you are visiting Amsterdam. We are big fans of the jazz night every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month: Speakeasy Jazz night. Starts at 6pm! See you there?

Have a picknick @ the Vondelpark

Especially the last few days, with such nice weather in Amsterdam, you see the local community going out to the different parks Amsterdam has to offer. The most popular park is definitely the Vondelpark. Since this park is also quite central a lot of tourists know how to find the park and especially on a nice day it’s really worth it to bring some wine and snacks and just chill in the Park. If you are more hungry, do what we did yesterday: At the back entrance of the Vondelpark, on the Amstelveenseweg 41, you’ll find a great pizzeria, run by real Napolitani: Pomorosso. Order pizza and eat it in the park!

Don’t forget: The most important thing is a blanket or towel. Since the soil can be moist, even after a few days of sunshine, make sure you bring one. Of course you can use your jacket, but the Dutch will recognize you as a tourist and you’ll have less space to move around. If you want a more like-a-local experience, go to the Westerpark, the Oosterpark or the Erasmus park.

Artis Royal Zoo

Artis, the oldest zoo in the Netherlands, founded in 1838, shows its historical character even before you walk through the gates: two golden eagles are perched proudly atop the main entrance. People enjoy the 19th-century atmosphere of the gardens: the winding paths, majestic trees, the fascinating sculptures and the monumental historical buildings. Artis is a haven of peace and quietness right in the city centre of Amsterdam. Don’t ask us why, but their mascotte “Artis de Partis” has become really popular, so make sure you bring one home!
